My brother, who was a flambée-er for Old San Francisco in Houston during the 80s, still whips them up on occasion.

Restaurant Jezebel downtown has it on their menu, and I've heard it's really good. Looks like this place has it too: http://www.yelp.com/biz/joes-bar-and-grill-austin#hrid:AdaOa5q-rA26fGZayNLF6Q/query:bananas%20foster

About what is the travel time by car from Austin, Texas to Big Bend National Park

What is the travel time by car from Austin, Texas to Big Bend National Park?
Austin - 5 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
go to Mapquest and type in your starting place and your final destination, it'll give you the mileage and estimated travel time.
2 :
It depends on how fast you drive and how often you stop, but you should allow the better part of a day.
3 :
469 miles give or take - depending on where in Austin you are. about 9 hours 30 minutes to travel
4 :
It takes us about 7 1/2 hours from San Antonio. So 8 1/2 is probably a safe bet. Its a long drive, but well worth it. Big Bend is one of my favorite places in the state. If you are out that way, go to the Davis Mountains area, too.
5 :
That's about 450 miles; most of the highways along the way have a 70 mile-per-hour limit, so you're looking at about 6 and a half hours. Of course, it's a good thing to stop for gas now and then; be SURE to fill up before you enter the park, as the gas station at the north entrance was the only one, the last time I was there.

About can someone describe how to travel with a newborn on a plane

Can someone describe how to travel with a newborn on a plane?
My son will only be 6 weeks old when we are travelling from Austin to Las Vegas and I was just curious as to other people's experiences and any advice you might have. Thanks!
Newborn & Baby - 11 Answers

1 :
you want to make sure he nurses on a bottle or pacifer when the plane lands and takes off. It helps to pop his ears. Make sure your airline allows carseats! never hold the baby in your lap!!
2 :
A lot of parents I know give baby Tylenol or baby Motrin before they get on the plane. It helps them sleep and keeps them from being uncomfortable with the change in air pressure.
3 :
Adults are able to chew gum ETC to keep their ears from popping and hurting. Babies of course are not, so it is recommended that you allow the baby to suck on a bottle, pacifier or something similar to help equalize the pressure in the ear.
4 :
We flew with our daughter at 3 weeks! It is actually a great age to fly because they are so little and do not need much entertainment yet. What helps a lot is having a baby bjorn or a sling. I would not even take a stroller. You can take your car seat to the gate and check it there if there are no extra seats. I think most airlines will put families by the extra seats if there are any. Also, bring extra outfits for all of you. Just in case he spits up on you, your won't have to smell the spit up for hours. An extra top is huge! For feeding on the plane, if you are BFing I suggest the window seat. If you feel shy, your husband/partner can hold up a blanket. We took safety pins with us to pin up a blanket, but it was no big deal. As far as ears popping, our daughter has never had that probelm thankfully! Pacifiers or nursing can help. If he really cries, you should walk up and down the aisle or at least go to the bathroom. People will understand, don't worry!
5 :
I travelled from Vancouver BC to Michigan when my daughter was 6 weeks old. It was a good trip, she slept most of the way and I was breastfeeding so I didn't have to worry about bottles etc. The only thing that I could have done differently was to pack more sleepers. I had the one she was wearing, plus two in my diaper bag. She soiled them both before we left the Vancouver airport. I had to wash them in the bathroom and use a hand dryer to dry them. I would pack at least 4 extra. You can bring the carseat right on the plane, and if they have an empty seat somewhere they'll move you so you can strap the seat in. It was really helpful. I hope this helps, and pack lots of snacks for yourself. The carseat is really heavy to pack around the airport, never mind going for something to eat as well. Have a good trip.
6 :
Just from past experience, I have little brothers and my mom took with them on planes. Have your son drink something when taking off and landing, that way his ears don't pop, it's the same as if you were to chew gum.
7 :
Walk aboard and sit down in chair, if you have any questions ask.
8 :
what we do is putting something in the ears of the baby. I just had a long flight with my baby son and he his not cried while taking of or landing. Keep everyting ready as diapers, toys, milk, clean cloths and be patient. Good luck
9 :
As far as I know, and I could be totally wrong, an infant is supposed to be 4 months before being put on a plane. Their bodies are too delicate to handle the pressure and other issues that come with flying. Double check with your doctor and your airline before you fly.
10 :
Make sure you have a FTA certified car seat...otherwise they may not let you on the place
11 :
First, when you check in at the gate, make sure they know your baby will be traveling in a rear Facing infant seat. Airplane seats are so close together that the person in front of you will not be able to lower their seat and will 'piss' them off. If you are traveling with a partner, book their seat in front of the baby so this isn't an issue. Second, take the baby in for a check-up the day before you travel, to make sure there isn't any illness that hasn't presented it's self yet (one time flying with a child with an ear infection and you'll learn this the hard way). Third, make sure the baby is well fed and changed right before you board. Your flight shouldn't be to long so hopefully he won't need to eat again but keep a pacifer on hand just in case. Good luck. He's so little, he'll probably sleep the whole time anyway!

Contact your local breed club. I found the website for the Dallas Fort Worth Labrador Retriever Club. http://www.dfwlrc.org/ If you contact them, they should be able to point you in the right direction. Usually breed clubs are composed of a small group of people dedicated to bettering their chosen breed.

The Two labs clubs in Texas http://www.hotlrc.com/ Heart of Texas Labrador Retriever Club http://www.dfwlrc.org/ Dallas-Fort Worth Labrador Retriever Club http://www.thelabradorclub.com/subpages/breeder_search_results.php?cri=bystate The parent club has three Texas breeders listed with them. One in Rowlett and Two in Aubery. Happy hunting

You might want to consider adopting a dog from a shelter house. Check this out. http://dogtime.com/shelters

try your local paper...i found my reputable breeder that don't breed by kennel club breed standards in mine by putting a ad in it looking for the breed i wanted....i found a beautiful akc registered golden retriever in 24 hours after putting the ad in for $450 she's 14 weeks old now and healthy as ever got her at 6 1/2 weeks old...

About Travel tips! Texas (Austin) to Mexico, New Orleans

Travel tips! Texas (Austin) to Mexico, New Orleans?? Any Ideas?
Me and my sister are travelling to Austin next week and we will be away for two weeks. We were thinking we could have a trip to a beach in Mexico? - Are there any complications with travelling from Austin to Mexico with a British Passport? - Where would be nice, and not touristy but safe? - Is there anyway other possibilities with transport, just a query no major problem with flying, was thinking about possibly a coach (is this unrealistic?) - Any general relevant information? New Orleans Where to go in New Orleans? How to get there? Recommendations? Are there any other cheap possibilities to visit near Texas in a space of two weeks. Are places like visiting Cuba unrealistic? Any help will be much appreciated!

From Austin, the best option for you to get to New Orleans is probably to fly. Things to do in New Orleans: For general info: www.frenchquarter.com New Orleans hosts many festivals and celebrations throughout the year: www.nola.com/festivals There are many tours offered and examples are: www.graylineneworleans.com www.hauntedhistorytours.com http://www.saveourcemeteries.org/tours/index.htm The Saint Charles Streetcar is the oldest continuously operating street railway in the world and is a "tourist attraction" in its own right. It is part of the public transit system, as are the Canal Street and Riverfront streetcar lines: www.norta.com There is always music, but the bands change: Go to www.bestofneworleans.com and click on Music then Listings or to www.offbeat.com and click on Listings, then Music. Note that music clubs often advertise "No Cover", meaning there is no charge for entering. However, clubs with "No Cover" often require that customers buy a beverage each for every "set" of music (which can be every 20 minutes) so KNOW THE PRICE before you sit down. Clubs do that because some people will sit in the club all evening drinking nothing (clubs only make money from the drinks they sell - not from the music). It is also a good idea to pay for each round of drinks (in clubs on Bourbon Street) as it is delivered so there can't be any confusion at the end of the evening. An incomplete guide to bars & clubs: http://www.10best.com/New_Orleans,LA/Nightlife/ www.neworleanscheapdrinks.com http://www.nola.com/bar-guide/ Realize that some famous drinks are VERY potent compared with regular cocktails that have only 1 to 1 ½ ounces of alcohol. For example, a Hurricane is basically 3 or 4 ounces of rum in something like red Kool-Aid, and a Hand Grenade has at least 4 ½ ounces of Everclear + rum + vodka mixed with melon liquor. They don’t necessarily taste like an alcoholic beverage and it is easy to over-indulge. Wander around the French Quarter, enjoy the architecture, watch the street entertainers (do tip), and visit some of the historic buildings that have been turned into museums (go to www.frenchquarter.com and click on Historic Attractions). Cafe du Monde is in the French Quarter and you shouldn't miss having cafe au lait & beignets (www.cafedumonde.com). Another great coffee shop is the Croissant d'Or (at 617 Ursulines Street), which is open from 7:00am to 2:00pm and has food in addition to pastry. Visit the Bottom of the Cup tea Room for a reading: http://www.bottomofthecup.com/ The Palm Court restaurant is very nice, has moderate prices, and offers live jazz starting at 8:00pm: 1204 Decatur Street, (504) 525-0200. www.palmcourtjazzcafe.com Maximo's Italian Grill has great food and atmosphere: 1117 Decatur Street in the French Quarter, (504) 586-8883. www.maximosgrill.com Cafe Degas is a very French restaurant near City Park at 3127 Esplanade - which is not within walking distance of downtown (5 to 10 minutes by taxi). They are closed on Mondays & Tuesdays (504) 945-5635). www.cafedegas.com The Napoleon House restaurant is at 500 Chartres Street in the FQ, and has a menu of great local dishes: www.napoleonhouse.com Buffa’s is a neighborhood restaurant at 1001 Esplanade Avenue that is open 27/7 and has live entertainment: www.buffasrestaurant.com More restaurant suggestions: http://www.10best.com/New_Orleans,LA/Restaurants/ Preservation Hall has traditional live Jazz, and doesn’t serve alcohol so all ages are welcome: www.preservationhall.com New Orleans has ballet, opera, a symphony orchestra, and theatre: www.nobadance.com www.neworleansopera.org www.lpomusic.com www.lepetittheatre.com There is a free ferry across the Mississippi at the "foot" of Canal Street. It is a short trip but like a harbor cruise w/o a guide: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/canal_street_ferry The Aquarium, Audubon Zoo, and the new Insectarium are world-class attractions (www.auduboninstitute.org) and you should see them if you can. The Zoo is several miles from downtown. You can drive to the Zoo (which has free parking) or take public transit from the French Quarter. Go to www.neworleansmuseums.com for info on museums. Harrah’s Casino is in the Central Business District: www.harrahs.com (age 21 required for entry) New Orleans City Park has a variety of attractions + free parking. (www.neworleanscitypark.com). Check http://www.nola.com/visitor/ for ideas about other things to do. I hope you have a great time!

I would love to visit New York City, but I would like to live in Austin. New York is the greatest city in the world. It is exciting, diverse, crowded and crazy. I would not want to stay there longer than a few days though. It is dirty, expensive, and the people aren't friendly. Austin is a great city. It is clean, diverse, and the people are great. I would rather live and raise a family in Austin.

The high will probably be upper 60's, but it does get chilly at night so the low will be in the upper 40's. Here is a link to a monthly forecast...... http://www.weather.com/weather/monthly/USTX0057?from=tenDay_topnav_undeclared

Well, I have worn everything from shorts and a T-shirt one year, rain gear in a monsoon, the next year, and so many clothes just to keep warm during a sleet storm the third year all on Thanksgiving Day!
4 :
Check http://www.weather.com Enter Austin, Texas into the top field. Select the Ten Day forecast. Dude, weather here changes at the drop of a hat. One year it could be 85 degrees, the next year it could be 45. It could be clear and sunny or rainy, wet, and cold.

About suggestions for travel for Austin or Fredericksburg, TX

Suggestions for travel for Austin or Fredericksburg, TX?
My husband and I just moved from NC to Houston and before we moved had this tradition of going to the Blue Ridge mountains for our anniversary in October/November...Gatlinburg, Asheville, Boone, etc. We are looking for something similar to do around this area. I figured I'd get the opinion of others familiar with Texas travel. We've thought about Austin, San Antonio, Fredricksburg, whatever is considered "hill country"... We''d like to stay somewhere like a lodge or maybe a romantic but rustic B & B. We like small town shopping, dining, outdoor fall festivals, wineries, some touristy mountain attractions/historic tours, scenic driving for leaves changing... I am looking for recommendations for that type of trip. Thanks!

Wimberley sounds like it would work... it's very cool and rustic, and epitomizes Hill Country. http://www.wimberley.org/. The famous Salt Lick BBQ is right nearby in Driftwood, and you can visit nearby wineries... http://www.texaswinetrail.com/map.html Fredericksburg is a short drive if you want to pop over there, but it doesn't have the intimacy and charm of Wimberley, so I'd opt for the latter. One don't-miss is Love Creek Orchards in Medina (northwest of Banderas) - I first heard of it through a show on Food Network, and the drive out there is beautiful. http://www.lovecreekorchards.com/ Their apple pies are famous all over the south. There are also B&Bs in that area, if you wanted to do a day in each town.

About Is it safe to travel to Austin in a bus, then take a metro to UT

Is it safe to travel to Austin in a bus, then take a metro to UT?
I'm going to travel to Austin from Houston for a UT Camp. I'm leaving the 16th and coming back the 18th, but since I have to go back to actually move into UT the 24th, I don't want to waste gas coming to and fro four times so I'm going to be riding the bus on my first trip. I know greyhound is close {and I'm more familiar with the company} to the university, but when I checked availability, it was booked for the time I needed. I'm going to be traveling alone {second time visiting Austin} so I'm wondering if anyone knows a reliable bus station that is close to UT or one that is a short distance where I will be able to take the Metro.

Have you considered taking the Amtrak train? I once rode Amtrak from Dallas to Austin and it was GREAT! It was pretty cheap, too. You can get up and walk around, go to the snack car, restroom, etc. The only downside is that it takes a bit longer, but if you have time I would check into it. The Amtrak station was nice in Austin as I recall. Just check the Amtrak website for rates, etc. When I was a teenager I used to ride Greyhound alot (Dallas to Houston) and it was ok, just boring. But that was a while back. Good luck with school!
2 :
It is far cheaper to drive than take the bus twice round trip. It is also cleaner and safer.

I live here and it is true that we have lots and lots of bats. If it isn't a family trip go to 6th street. Congress does have the bridge with the bats and if you wait for night by or on the bridge you will see them fly. They are wonderful because they put a big dent in the bugs around here.

You just have a day here? There's tons of options. Music, museums, parks, natural spring swimming pools, best Tex-Mex and BBQ, friendly people, golf, University of Texas. Stroll the grounds of the capitol and tour the building. You can catch a Segway tour there. Go to Zilker park and swim in Barton Springs pool. It stays a cool 68 degrees year round. After your swim, go to Chuy's for the best Tex-Mex ever. It's a local favorite, the margaritas are great. If you like golf, our courses are rated high. We have lots of special events, check to see if there's something of interest to you when you come. I've included some links you might like.

It's possible - SA and Austin are about an hour apart by car - but depending on the time of day, the traffic is HORRENDOUS and can easily double your commute time. If you're not going during rush hours, you might be ok....
2 :
about an hour without traffic backups.
