About suggestions for travel for Austin or Fredericksburg, TX

Suggestions for travel for Austin or Fredericksburg, TX?
My husband and I just moved from NC to Houston and before we moved had this tradition of going to the Blue Ridge mountains for our anniversary in October/November...Gatlinburg, Asheville, Boone, etc. We are looking for something similar to do around this area. I figured I'd get the opinion of others familiar with Texas travel. We've thought about Austin, San Antonio, Fredricksburg, whatever is considered "hill country"... We''d like to stay somewhere like a lodge or maybe a romantic but rustic B & B. We like small town shopping, dining, outdoor fall festivals, wineries, some touristy mountain attractions/historic tours, scenic driving for leaves changing... I am looking for recommendations for that type of trip. Thanks!

Wimberley sounds like it would work... it's very cool and rustic, and epitomizes Hill Country. http://www.wimberley.org/. The famous Salt Lick BBQ is right nearby in Driftwood, and you can visit nearby wineries... http://www.texaswinetrail.com/map.html Fredericksburg is a short drive if you want to pop over there, but it doesn't have the intimacy and charm of Wimberley, so I'd opt for the latter. One don't-miss is Love Creek Orchards in Medina (northwest of Banderas) - I first heard of it through a show on Food Network, and the drive out there is beautiful. http://www.lovecreekorchards.com/ Their apple pies are famous all over the south. There are also B&Bs in that area, if you wanted to do a day in each town.
