About how much would one spend on gas travelling from Austin to NYC

How much would one spend on gas travelling from Austin to NYC?
I mean, i know it totally depends on the efficiency of the car, gas prices (don't we just love them?) and all that. But just as a rough, average estimate.

Mapquest gives 1750 miles, and I'd assume there wouldn't be much traffic till the northeast, so let's adjust that to 2000 miles after delays. Average MPG... SUV ~14? and car ~26? So let's say 20 mpg, makes it 100 gallons and like $3.25 a gallon. So $300-350 at the best.

Youll travel 1744 miles. If you stop for fuel every 350 miles you will have about 5 stops. Give or take for you own MPG.
3 :
go map quest, that will tell how many mileage the distance and how many mileage you get from your per a tank or gallon do the math
4 :
if you can't figure out simple division, what's next!
5 :
hmmm approx $3.33 per gallon !!

About how is the amtrax service between Austin and Dallas

How is the amtrax service between Austin and Dallas?
I need to keep travelling between austin and dallas everyweek - usually monday to thursday. Appreciate any feedback on this: How is the Amtrak service between Austin & Dallas ? Is it safe, how are the fellow passengers ? Do you get to buy and eat any snacks/drinks ? How comfortable are the seats for the long journey ? Are there any power points where i can plug my laptop ?

From what I know there isn't one.

You have to go to Ft. Worth first. It is safe and fairly comfortable. My daughter went from San Antonio to Longview via Ft. Worth with a young child

I have rode the Amtrak train from Dallas to Austin and I really enjoyed it. But it took about 8 hours so it's rather time-consuming. I don't know about riding it almost everyday, though, like you are describing. I think that would get pretty expensive. Yes, I think it's very safe. It wasn't very crowded at all and I enjoyed meeting the other passengers or I could just keep quiet and to myself if I wanted to. You can get up and walk around from car to car and there is a snack car where you can buy snacks and beverages. It is comfortable and the restrooms on board are very clean and decent. I didn't have a laptop at the time, but I bet they do have power points. Not sure about that. All in all, I thought it was a great way to travel. Very relaxing with good scenery.

The Driskill I think its about the best downtown. Sorry, but I can not help you with BBQ. I never get the chance when I'm on the road. Cheers from DOWNUNDER
2 :
Not sure about the BBQ but I know you can find the best hotel deals on this site. I use them all the time to travel and have been very happy with how many choices they provide on one page

There are some places around Congress Avenue that are just outside of downtown. The two nicest ones (in my opinion) are the Hyatt Regency and Embassy Suites. Just check the websites. Also, it may be a little bit crowded in the holiday shopping season, but the Arboretum is a nice place to stay. There is another Embassy Suites, and one of my personal favorites, the Renaissance (owned by marriott.) Most of the other nice hotels are either in a sketchy neighborhood or right by the highway. Getting one downtown isn't a bad idea, but then parking/transportation gets a little crazy. At any hotel you check into, there will undoubtedly be either a person or a list that can tell you about the best BBQ places in town . Have a nice trip.

I'd say for a good BBQ, you can try Lamberts Downtown Barbecue. Good restaurant, average priced. Get a hotel near here, not necessarily to be in downtown as transport is of no issue here. Take a look at the links I've porvided for your reference and to help you decide better.. http://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurant_Review-g30196-d800621-Reviews-Lamberts_Downtown_Barbecue-Austin_Texas.html http://www.holidaycity.com/austinhotels/ have a safe journey!
