Is it safe to travel to Austin in a bus, then take a metro to UT?
I'm going to travel to Austin from Houston for a UT Camp. I'm leaving the 16th and coming back the 18th, but since I have to go back to actually move into UT the 24th, I don't want to waste gas coming to and fro four times so I'm going to be riding the bus on my first trip. I know greyhound is close {and I'm more familiar with the company} to the university, but when I checked availability, it was booked for the time I needed. I'm going to be traveling alone {second time visiting Austin} so I'm wondering if anyone knows a reliable bus station that is close to UT or one that is a short distance where I will be able to take the Metro.

Have you considered taking the Amtrak train? I once rode Amtrak from Dallas to Austin and it was GREAT! It was pretty cheap, too. You can get up and walk around, go to the snack car, restroom, etc. The only downside is that it takes a bit longer, but if you have time I would check into it. The Amtrak station was nice in Austin as I recall. Just check the Amtrak website for rates, etc. When I was a teenager I used to ride Greyhound alot (Dallas to Houston) and it was ok, just boring. But that was a while back. Good luck with school!

It is far cheaper to drive than take the bus twice round trip. It is also cleaner and safer.
