Anyone Travel to Austin Texas Before?

I live here and it is true that we have lots and lots of bats. If it isn't a family trip go to 6th street. Congress does have the bridge with the bats and if you wait for night by or on the bridge you will see them fly. They are wonderful because they put a big dent in the bugs around here.

You just have a day here? There's tons of options. Music, museums, parks, natural spring swimming pools, best Tex-Mex and BBQ, friendly people, golf, University of Texas. Stroll the grounds of the capitol and tour the building. You can catch a Segway tour there. Go to Zilker park and swim in Barton Springs pool. It stays a cool 68 degrees year round. After your swim, go to Chuy's for the best Tex-Mex ever. It's a local favorite, the margaritas are great. If you like golf, our courses are rated high. We have lots of special events, check to see if there's something of interest to you when you come. I've included some links you might like.

Travel from south austin to UTSA?
I might be going to UTSA for physical therapy classes. Is it possible to commute from south austin to UTSA campus in san antonio? How long would it take? Austin - 2 Answers

It's possible - SA and Austin are about an hour apart by car - but depending on the time of day, the traffic is HORRENDOUS and can easily double your commute time. If you're not going during rush hours, you might be ok....

Travelling to Austin this Saturday; what about the Hurricane?
Hi there, I'm a first time flyer and everything seems to be going wrong! I'm due to fly from England to Austin, via Houston this Saturday, and will be arriving around 2pm (local time) in Houston, going onto Austin at about 4pm. I was just wondering how this would affect my travel? As you can understand, being from England where the most extreme weather we have is 'heavy rain', the word hurricane sends me into a panic. You won't be flying to houston saturday. That's the day it's supposed to hit. Sorry to tell you that. I actually live southeast Houston.

If the storm is believed to be on ground in Houston when your plane is to arrive, your flight will most likely be canceled. They don't land in the middle of a storm, so it will either be canceled or if you are already in air, diverted to another airport. You will probably be one day behind. Right now it really depends on how fast and what direction the storm progresses in, but I wouldn't worry about it. At worst, you'll be postponed, but you won't be in any danger, airlines don't really take chances like that. If Austin gets a lot of rain, be prepared to hit up the Barton Springs Greenbelt when you get here!

Hurricane Ike is projected to make Texas landfall between Galveston and Port Lavaca. This places Houston on the side of the hurricane with the most damaging winds. Expect flooding in Austin and a one or two day delay should be anticipated. Houston and its airport will be underwater if Houston sustains more than 5.2 inches of rain which looks more and more likely. Austin looks like we will be on the weak side of the storm which means we get a bunch of rain (which we need). But just east of Austin and over to Louisiana could have lots of flooding, winds. Wait until Friday morning to see what they are projecting, should be pretty accurate 24-36 hours outside landfall. Here is a local weather station you can check - www.kvue.com/weather - click on the KVUE Storm Team forecast button for latest info. If you're stopping or connecting between England and Houston you may want to consider making reservations in a hotel near the airport so you don't have to stay in the airport for what ever delays Ike causes. Check with your airline to see what their plans are, and if you can make changes on your flights. Also be aware that lots of people have been evacuated from the Gulf coast. Hotels all over the state get real busy. Also, Texas has a very good Hurricane preparedness plan, we've had a lot of them. Like "squirrel" says, you're gonna want to get outside if we get some rain from IKE, should cool the weather off, and put Austin in a good mood after a long hot summer! Be sure to enjoy some Texas BBQ while you're here, just ask ANY local were the best BBQ is for recommendations on where to go. Good luck, either way it goes, it will be a memorable trip! If I were you, I would strongly consider having the flight changed to something that does not go through Houston. First of all, Austin-Bergstrom is an international airport so I think you might be able to catch a direct flight. If you can't, try rescheduling to connect through Dallas or maybe even Atlanta.

Your plane won't be going to Houston. It may go somewhere else (that is, if it is not canceled), but all will be fine in Austin if you can get here some other way.

Travel from Austin to San Antonio?
Hey, im going to travel to Austin for the first time (Im an international student), and i was just wondering what transportation options I have from Austin to San Antonio, I only heard its terrible. (I don't have a license yet). San Antonio - 3 Answers

You can take the Greyhound Bus, its cheaper and not very far to go. A plane would cost to much. Have fun!!

I would pay a bit extra and take the Amtrak. The greyhound might be a bit cheaper, but you truly ride with the scum of the earth in those busses, they are very tight, people sneak animals on and even put their luggage in garbage bags. The Amtrak is comfortable, you get to see the landscape, and you can walk around and sit in the dining car if you want.

About travel between Austin and San Antonio - how do I do it

Travel between Austin and San Antonio - how do I do it!?
I'm going to San Antonio this weekend for my friend's baby shower. She just called me and told me that she may be delivering early because she has begun to dilate. Her boyfriend is working on Friday and may not be able to take off. There really isn't anyone else to pick me up from the Austin airport (flying to Austin is cheaper). How can I get from Austin to San Antonio in the fastest and cheapest way? I do have some options: Call this guy who I used to date who is now at Ft. Hood in Killeen to come pick me up and take me to San Antonio. But, he may be working when i get in (12:30pm on Friday) and I really don't want to see him during this time. Rent a car for a day to drive from the airport to San Antonio. But, I don't want to have to pay to rent a car. Have the boyfriend miss a day of work. ????? Please let me know what you think, especially those that are in the area and know other ways..such as train or bus? Other - Destinations - 3 Answers

Contact Greyhound. San Antonio and Austin aren't THAT far apart.

Take the bus, from Austin to San Antonio is about an hour, at the most, or get someone to drive you..... good luck.

Tell your BF your dillema and how important this is to you and hopefully he will offer -- but don't ask. Otherwise you really need to rent a car.
